Drinking glasses at awkward angles

So the alley squirrels have discovered my strawberry plant, and are now doing their best to destroy all of the ripening fruit. This weekend we're going to get some chicken wire in order to vermin-proof the patio garden. And don't give me that look -
sure squirrels look all cute and harmless, but they're nothing more than rats with a good PR firm.

According to something that popped into my inbox this evening, the Simpsons ride at Universal Orlando is almost ready. And only another two years until the Harry Potter themed section of the park is also slated to open. That's something to "Whoo hooo" over.

What is up with the newest incarantions of the Power Rangers? I know this show was lame when I was younger, but it is just intolerably retarded now. 'Dino Thunder', and now 'Jungle Fury' - horrible acting, cheesy dialogue, pseudo-violent content, strange costumes...but my son loves it, so I'm forced to sit through it every once in a while. Of course, he's in bed, so I have no idea why I didn't turn the channel hours ago.

Parts of the town I live in are now on Google street-view. My work is there and I'm pretty sure I found my car in the parking lot. I'd love to post an image of one of the views, but Google won't seem to allow it. The bastards. If it weren't so late at night I'd offer the consolation prize of a screen cap of our webcam, which is located across the marina on the other side of the harbor from my building. When the weather is nice - which it is right now, without a doubt - it actually isn't a bad place to ply one's trade. I went for three walks today, it was that nice. I watched the crew prepare the sailboat for the semester-at-sea program after lunch. And stared at the yachts that have been at the port for a while. It'd be nicer if there were places to eat (other than fast food) closer to my building. There's some talk about a couple of Southern "comfort" and Creole restaurants opening in close proximity, and with the Japanese steak house under contract across the street (but yet to finish construction), the lunch-time prospects could be looking up. As could the the job itself. My maybe-possibly future new boss took me for a walk yesterday to reassure me that she was working on the issue of clearing the way for my eventual move. She's been checking on me a lot, and the rumors have started in that area that I might be joining them. They're keeping my designated cubicle warm for me, apparently. It's a downgrade from my current digs (which have four solid walls and an actual door), but I'll adjust. My priority now is to get all my little ducks in a nice tidy row, so that I can ensure a smooth transition. I still don't have a clue what the department will do with all of the work I do now. Spread it around? Hire someone in my place? Whatever they do, I've started to introduce some of my coworkers to the idea that I may not always be available to help them, and they have to start learning how to be more self-sufficient. It's for their own good anyway. So, in the spirit of my newfound (and sure to be short-lived) positivity, here's a nice little tune by PJ Harvey:

'Good Fortune'

M is coming over tomorrow. We're having dinner and taking the little guy to see Horton Hears a Who (he keeps asking if we'll see Horton Hatches an Egg, too), then back to my house for movies, snacks and booze. Hallelujah.
